The Voguish "It" List I
The wardrobe pieces that I've been dreaming of while summer tapers off...and welcome to the Voguish newsletter! <3
I am so excited to welcome you to the very first issue of the Voguish newsletter! This substack is a new place where I will be writing about all things fashion, including shopping wishlists, fashion industry news, styling, behind the scenes of working in the industry, and more! I’ve long wanted to find an outlet to join the ever-growing conversation around fashion, and after connecting with the work of so many writers through this platform, I was drawn to the idea of a newsletter. My messages are always open if you have any comments or ideas for an issue–I would love to hear from you! I hope that Voguish adds a bit of joy to your day–may it be through a shoe that catches your eye or inspiration for styling a little black dress.
xx

Whenever fall rolls around, I always find myself doing a little bit more browsing online to find those perfect pieces for the approaching season. I know summer is usually considered the best time of year for fashion, but as someone who loves a cozy sweater or cashmere scarf, I look forward to the slightly colder temperatures. Here’s a rundown of my favorite pieces that have been living in my head– some I’m seriously considering while others I’d feel lucky to even see in a museum (looking at you, Dior newspaper dress). I’ll be honest that not all of these pieces are suited for the cold, but living in Los Angeles does give me more time to wear mini dresses! I’d love to put together a fall wardrobe guide in a future issue, let me know if that’s something you’d be interested in. For now…onto my “it” list!
Orseund Iris Bardot Mini Dress ($395)
I am always excited when Orseund Iris announces a new release, which is often only one garment at a time. They launched their summer collection in late June, and I immediately fell in love with the bardot mini dress. Based on the dress’ name and the collection cited as “inspired by 1950s swimwear and a summer on the French Riviera”, I would assume that their muse is Brigette Bardot, a figure who has undoubtedly been an influence on my personal style. The mini dress is halter-style with ruching at the hip, and comes in white, yellow, or pale blue. I have my heart set on the latter, but all of the variations are darling.
High Sport Remita Cotton-Blend Knit Jacket ($2600)
After first hearing about the label High Sport through Lauren Sherman’s podcast Fashion People (which I highly recommend listening to!), I have started to notice the brand’s signature pants popping up all over my instagram feed and being recommended in newsletters. Though the selection on High Sport’s website is quite limited beyond the pants category, Moda Operandi offers tops, sweaters, and jackets. I am particularly a fan of this cinching navy jacket, which I can see becoming a seasonless staple (throw it over a minidress for summer evenings, wear it with jeans and kitten heels in the fall- the styling possibilities are endless!). It feels somewhat reminiscent of Azzedine Alaïa jackets, like these ones shown for fall 1989, all great pieces for a capsule wardrobe.

Tank Air Studio Studio Tank in Cherry ($75)
Los Angeles based Tank Air Studio’s tank tops were a hot topic last year after Bella Hadid ventured out in them, and I will happily vouch for them. I purchased the black studio tank top first, and after finding myself constantly reaching for it, also picked it up in white and navy. They are so flattering and versatile, and easily one of the most worn pieces in my wardrobe, especially when I’m walking around in the heat. This is on the wishlist because they have now released the top in ‘cherry’, a red. They are currently sold out in every size, but I will definitely be getting one whenever they restock.
Arcina Ori Celine Dress ($242)
Arcina Ori is another label that I’ve only heard of recently but has quickly appeared on fashion it-girls like Leonie Hanne, Franziska Nazarenus, and Romee Strijd. The celine dress is high on my wishlist, a strapless mini dress with a black top and white skirt. They recently restocked it in all sizes after being sold out, so now is the time! If you prefer a maxi-length dress, this one from By Malene Birger is very similar and nearly the same price.
Vivienne Westwood Ballet Flats ($482 with shipping)
I have been wearing ballet flats for a long time, so I’m thrilled that they’ve continued trending through 2024 and more brands are designing their own takes on the style. There is a Vivienne Westwood boutique in London called Worlds End that carries some unique products not available online or other stores. Available pieces are regularly posted on the store’s Instagram and can be purchased through DM (and they offer worldwide shipping). A pair of ballet flats caught my eye in mid-July, a classic shape in black with a bow and a small gold Vivienne Westwood orb logo on the front. I sent Worlds End a message and learned they are $482 including postage to the United States. They also come in pink but those are not available yet. I can definitely see these becoming the next popular ballet-style shoe and will be looking out for the release of the pink colorway.
Chanel Vintage Rosebud Heels
After lots of digging online, I have yet to figure out what year or collection the Chanel rose heels debuted under Karl Lagerfeld, but they are definitely a vintage item that’s never left my dream wishlist. While a bit more fun than a classic heel, they are elegant and subtle enough to be worn for a variety of occasions. They seem to pop up fairly regularly on websites like the RealReal and 1stDibs, as well as through various independent fashion sourcers. Unfortunately they are usually priced pretty high–a pair recently sold for over $2000 on Vestiaire Collective. The Millennial Decorator also sold a few in one of her recent vintage shoe drops, but they are already sold out. Make sure to check her Instagram in case she ever sources more or if you are just a lover of vintage shoes! I also found a pair currently available on Sororité vintage in size US 11. Let me know if you ever spot a pair in 9.5! <3
Red Mini Heels
In perfect timing for the approaching fall season, I’ve found myself drawn towards burgundy heels. In January, I got the Repetto Camille heels in black which are only 3cm high, so they are perfect for nights where a bit more walking is required or in the daytime if I want to wear shoes that aren’t sneakers. I even wore them recently to the Farmer’s Market! After getting so much wear out of the Camille shoes already, I’ve been starting to research different styles of shorter heels. There are three red-burgundy pairs that have caught my eye over the last few months, from Miu Miu and Gucci.
Miu Miu Crimson Patent Leather Slingbacks with Buckles ($1290) and Patent Bow Kitten-Heel Slingback Pumps ($1270)
Launched on the runway for Miu Miu’s fall 2023 collection, these slingbacks featuring three buckle straps have been worn by lots of fashion girls like Jessie Andrews and Camille Charrière. I’m aware I’m about a year behind the trend with these ones! To be honest, they didn’t originally stand out to me and I was thrown off by the many buckles. However, they definitely grew on me–enough to be on this list! The buckles are fun and a bit unexpected, but not crazy enough to make them difficult to style or wear in a practical setting. From the same collection as the buckle-adorned slingbacks, these ones instead have a bow. With an almost identical shape and color, they can serve a similar purpose for your wardrobe. The buckle ones are definitely more popular right now and I haven’t seen many people wearing the bow version, so they are great if you are wanting a less trendy pump.
Gucci Signoria Slingback Pump in Rosso Ancora Patent Leather ($1150)
While I’ve yet to form a solid opinion on Sabato De Sarno’s Gucci (I need to see a few more collections first), I love these red slingbacks from his spring 2024 debut show. The gold chain detail is elegant without seeming too ‘loud’. While relatively mainstream amongst the fashion crowd right now, due to their minimalist design, I don’t think they will go out of style in the coming years or become an outdated relic of 2024 trends.
Alaïa Le Teckel Bag ($2450-2950)
Alaïa has been one of my favorite fashion brands for a while now, and I am thrilled to see how Pieter Mulier’s work at the house has been increasing its popularity. I don’t currently have any east-west bags, and I think Alaïa’s Le Teckel is one of the chicest on the market right now. I must admit that, as a dachshund owner, I love the nod to the breed and Mulier’s own dog. The extra long straps are perfect for throwing the bag over your shoulder, and it now comes in a large variety of colors, sizes, and materials, such as the new canvas and goatskin versions. I would love to see more of the options in-store but if I was to pick one right now I would go for the medium size in ivory.
Christian Dior by John Galliano F/W 2000 Vintage Newspaper Dress
Potentially the pinnacle of dream vintage fashion pieces is the famous Dior newspaper dress designed by John Galliano. It was of course worn by Sarah Jessica Parker as Carrie Bradshaw in Sex and the City. She wore two different versions of it, one in season 3 of the series and the other in the Sex and the City 2 movie. However, it is an iconic dress beyond its association with SATC, designed for the Christian Dior F/W 2000 collection. The show itself faced a lot of controversy–if you are interested in the history of John Galliano and his tenure at Dior, I loved Dana Thomas’s book Gods and Kings– but the newspaper dress is undoubtedly a piece of fashion history. Evidently, owning this piece of fashion history comes at a high cost. One sold for $35,000 on FRWD, Revolve’s sister website focused on luxury fashion, under their FRWD Renew initiative. The exact dress worn by SJP in Sex and the City 2 was recently listed on 1st Dibs for $245,000, and includes the return tags from the loan. While the newspaper dress will not be mine anytime soon, I can only hope it is bought by an institution like the Metropolitan Museum of Art so I can see it in person!
